I am an older person with knee problems. The first year I attended I was allowed to pick up my badge without waiting on line, In 2012, I was told (rudely) by the way that I had to stand in the five hour line. I am sure I am not the only attendee with problems standing, as well as the average attendee having to stand in the sun. Why does it take so long to hand out the badges? Why are the badges not mailed if requested, the recipient could pay for insurance if that is a problem?

Thanks
Scooter

Hey Scooter,
We're sorry that you had to wait in the line with your disability - that should not have happened.

As for the issues with the lines, our Registration has been working on ideas/solutions since May 29th (yes, right after FanimeCon) with the goal of making our members have a super short wait in the line. The badges being mailed out in advance is definitely something that has been tossed around. Our Registration has to look at the pros and cons of each proposed solution and then decide which ones are the best.

We had numerous issues with the badges/badging on top of the blackout making our lines completely longer than expected for Friday/Saturday. This isn't an excuse as we should not have lines beyond 2 hours (I believe Registration's goal is even less than that!) unless it is something out of our control (earthquake, complete power failure, etc.). Sunday/Monday, the lines were the same as they were in 2011.

Thanks for you response; I completely understand that things happen and no one is to blame. I guess I would say that it was the way the situation was handled that upset me, I think the people could have been more professional if they are going to deal with public. If it is possible could you tell me how to handle the situation next year?  Where to go etc.

Thanks again
Scooter

P.S Loved the Steampunk at the Doubletree and the shuttle service.  Hope that comes back!

I would suggest that you ask to talk to a Registration manager. If the staffer assisting you is not being friendly, you can also ask for their name/badge ID number and report them (either to their manager or to Convention Operations in the Marriott).

The shuttle service between the outside hotels should be returning for FanimeCon 2013. At this point and time, we're still reviewing how to make it more efficient by reviewing how many people used the shuttles at various points during the day.

As a reminder, we had three routes (depending on time of day/night):
1) Doubletree / San Jose Convention Center
2) Holiday Inn / Radisson / San Jose Convention Center
3) Doubletree / Holiday Inn / Radisson / San Jose Convention Center
