Glitch here folks. :D
Anyway,I intend to have a nice dinner sometime during fanime(probably japanese but any will do).Anyone know which of all these restuarants in downtown are actually good for dining out?Preferbally one within walking distance of the convention.

DJ Stormy

For Japanese food i think you might have to go to japan town you could take the lightrail there is just a 5 min ride maybe, but there are quite a few restuarants, jack in the box, mac donalds, johnny rockets, la victorias.
bunch of Chinese food places i dunno if you would call any of this upscale but they are decent places. most of them are all within walking distances.

Cheers,

A few blocks away there's a Spaghetti Factory and the Tied House (a micobrewery type place) less than a mile away. Here's a great resource:

http://www.sanjose.org/visitors/eat/distance.php

It shows restaurants based on distance from the Con. Center.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend.

The Arcadia in the lobby of the Marriott is a really good restaurant. Good steak, great desserts...but also about 40 bucks a person for dinner if not a little more.

Original Joe's is good too, and much more reasonable money-wise.

I also recommend Original Joe's. They have great food and it's a mid-price range place.

Depends what day you want to do it during fanime. I'll think about it.
You tame a dog with food, you tame a man with money, but you can never tame the wolf of Mibu (Miburo).

FYI there's a food guide map on the last page of the Fanime 2006 program guide.  8)

A word of warning: San Jose is NOT known for it's night life. The selection of restaurants open at night takes a drastic drop. It's best to go out and eat before 10pm...maybe 9pm just to be safe. Or do your homework first.

Don't make the same mistake like what I did and just go drive out aimlessly at 10pm at night and expect to see things open. Trying to find a place open at that time was much more difficult then I though it would be.

rigel

... That's kind of sad actually, that San Jose has a lack of a nightlife. xD

Anyway, I heard there was this new ramen place in Japantown, Kumako or somethingsuch. Might be worth a try? :D? I've never eaten there before though.

Yeah.I'll try to find a time when nothing that big is going on.
This is something I plan to do with a group of friends, but I welcome anyone. ^^

Ahh, you mean Kumako Ramen! ^_^ They're delicious, although found only in Japantown. I always enjoy their Curry Ramen over there! ^^

Although theres a bunch of places such as Subway, McDonalds, Jack-In-The-Box, as well as the Tech Centers Cafe, the Arcadia over at the Mariott, an Indian Food place, Pizza Chicago, Tandoori Oven, Johnny Rockets, Panda House, a Hot Dog place, and a few new resturaunts.

However, if you desire some late night munchies, then Jack-In-the-Box is your place to go, since its the only resturaunt in the area thats open 24/7.

Jack In The Box is open that late?! O.O

Does Jack in The Box also happen to have Dine In hours that late....or do I need to score foodage for late night time beforehand?^^;;

What?! Dine in 24hrs a day?! O.O

We HAVE to go there some late night Moogle-chan! <3 <3

I have not eaten at the Rokko downtown but I did eat at the one in Sunnyvale, and I love their lunch special bento boxes! Enough food to fill me up, and I like to eat.

I would make reservations and if the Rokko downtown is anything like the one in Sunnyvale, you might be able to score a private room with a low table (it's very fun to eat in there!)

If you're going to score late-night foodage, skip Jack in the Crack and hit up La Victoria or Iguana's (before 3:00AM). These places are SO GOOD and definitely a part of the college lifestyle at SJSU.

otakuya

Lessee...There's Tengu Sushi, Togos, Johnny Rockets, Chinese Gourmet Express, Dawg's Seafood (?), House of Siam, Pizza My Heart, Ben & Jerry's, Dakao, La Victoria, Quickly, Tapioca Express, Jack Box, and McDonald's all around SJSU area.

There's Togos, Sonoma Chicken Coop, Peggy Sue's, Starbucks, Old Spaghetti, Tied House, Scott's Seafood, etc... at San Pedro Square (the best place in SJ at night, IMO, especially during Sharks games).

Moonblossom

Is the katsudon at Tengu any good? I found their site and kinda got my hopes up. Or does anyone know of anywhere else around the Hilton (within a few minutes walking distance ideally) that sells good, inexpensive katsudon?

Where I live, the only available Japanese food is sushi or really expensive trendy/fusion stuff, no comfy homestyle food to be had. I've been craving sticky gooey delicious katsudon for ages now, and I'm really hoping I can sink my teeth into some at Fanime. Assuming I can wait that long without going bonkers!
